One of the most awaited festivals of Delhi, Dilli6, is back at Edesia, Crowne Plaza Today, Okhla. On offer are about 125 dishes from Purani Dilli which has transformed the restaurant into a food haven of the walled city of Delhi.
The lunch and dinner menu at the Dilli6 festival is a hot bed of culinary treasures, be it Prem Matra, Chhola Kulcha, fried fare of Paranthe Wali Gali, Kakori Kababs or umpteen choices for dessert. The hotel has authentically recreated the scenes and smells of Old Dilli inside Edesia.
On entering the restaurant, one is served Kanji and given a tour of the buffet. Hot tea is served in earthenware and the background music takes you back several decades in time. “All the decorations with film posters, kites, etc. have been done in house,” says Pallavi Singh, marketing communications manager, Crowne Plaza Today, Okhla.
For starters, the golgappas have four different options to be dunked into—kanji vada, asafoetida, sweet and sour and of course black carrot shorbet. The Palak Chaat is another great hit.
The cuisine from the kitchens of emperors who ruled Delhi after the founding of the walled city of Delhi—Shahjahanabad in 1639—are the highlights. Halim, Nihari and Sheermal, Kakoris, Kormas and Biryanis are must-trys.
“The dishes incorporate authentic flavours of Purani Dilli and the annual event extends the hygiene and comforts of a five-star hotel,” says Ramit Wason, executive chef of Crowne Plaza Today.
For vegetarians, there are plenty of options like Seethaphal ki Subji, Tawa Tak-a-Tak comprising karela, baigan, bhindi and mushroom. The chillas made of besan are highly recommended.
The dessert buffet has over 50 options of choicest delicacies. Ghantewala Ka Sohan Halwa, Daulat Ki Chaat—best described as the fluffiest soufflé, century-old Chaina Ram’s Karachi Halwa, leaves one completely satiated. The authentic paan on the way out rounds off the amazing meal.
