Kerala's Ayurveda Balm for Neymar
KOCHI: While Brazil is mourning the injury to the vertebra of Neymar, Kerala is considering the viability of offering high-quality Ayurveda treatment to the football superstar.
A team of Ayurveda medical experts submitted a report to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, briefing the treatment procedure that can be used to treat Neymar. The doctors have prescribed a two-month treatment plan.
The report was in response to the chief minister’s request to Ayurveda Medical Education director T Sivadas to submit a report.
The possibility of offering treatment to Neymar in Kerala was suggested to the CM by Kerala Football Association president KMI Mather. “On behalf of the KFA, I suggested to the CM that we could make an offer to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that there was a possibility of providing Neymar with quality Ayurveda treatment here,” Mather said.
A team of Ayurveda specialists were tasked with collating data from the Internet on the extent of the injury suffered by the Brazilian football star.
Twenty-two-year-old Neymar was stretchered off after he was kneed on the back by Colombia’s Juan Zuniga in Fortaleza. Tests conducted later revealed a fracture to the third vertebra.
The CBF had said that “the prognosis is excellent”, and the injury had to be given proper amount of time to heal.
“Rushed measures will put at risk his future as an athlete,” Brazil team doctor Jose Luiz Runco said, adding that Neymar would be sidelined for about 45 days.
The CBF statement had said that the Brazilian star would remain solely under the care of the Confederation’s doctors until the end of the World Cup, and that no alternative treatment was discussed.
Neymar, in a video message, had expressed his disappointment over missing out, saying that “my dream isn’t over. “It was interrupted by a play but it continues. My dream was to play in a World Cup final also, but this time it didn’t work,” he had said.
Meanwhile, health secretary Dr K Ellangovan said that the chances of the star seeking Ayurveda treatment in the state were remote. He clarified that the report submitted by experts clearly states that Neymar could not be given Ayurveda treatment as he had suffered a vertebral fracture. “There is no treatment in Ayurveda for fracture. They could only give treatment to treat the stiffness of the body,” the official said.
