The capital is in grips of fashion as it is the Fall/Winter 2014 edition of Wills India Lifestyle Fashion Week that’s on at Pragati Maidan.
The week started with Tarun Tahiliani’s showcasing Pashmina wraps, constructed jackets with shoulders embellished with Zardozi work, chikankari tunics and had Shilpa Shetty flaunt her ‘fab-ab’ in a Kanjeevaram skirt.
Raakesh Agarvwal’s show was loaded with oomph as models strutted down in sexy leather dresses and thigh-high boots. He intermixed supple leather with sheer net and embellished them chains and diamantes to create some crafty styles.
Designer duo Ashima-Leena’s collection innovatively juxtaposed varied elements creating a pretty story. Sheer blacks teamed with pink and red and digital prints interplayed with jacquards looked great on saris, flowing skirts and constructed jackets and blouses.
Malini Ramani had beautiful jersey capes, kaftans and gowns with bold string-embroidery, scallop work. Japanese Kimono-inspired tunics dominated Payal Pratap’s collection. But it was those appliqued and leit-motif work that really stood out. Jackets, dresses, maxis, pants and saris came alive in vibrant prints and palette. Sanchita Ajjampur this time too had her fabric treatment and fine details won us over. Pencil skirt with iridescent ribbed texture and jacket with fur detailing on elbows can only be expected from her.
Rahul Mishra got a standing ovation for the collection that won him the International Woolmark Prize last month in Milan. He took the Merino wool to a different level by using them in dresses and embellishing them with embroidery and Bandhni work that looked like they were prints. This collection displayed technique, style and innovation at its best.
