Two-dimensional selfies are so passé. Now, using advanced 3D scanning and printing techniques, it takes just about six hours and you have your own 3D selfie on your palm. Started by engineers Pranav Prakash and Shantanu Raghav in June 2013, Solidry creates not just 3D sandstone figurines and PLA plastic unicolour busts, but also bobble heads, pen stands, card holders, jewellery, batarang, 3D rakhis and a wide range of customised products. “Pranav and I started out by making a 3D printer and holding workshops to teach people about 3D printing. At the same time we started offering 3D printing services. It shaped into a full-fledged business and we received an overwhelming response for our 3D miniature figurines,” says Shantanu. “We also developed a low-cost scanner to scan people.”

They have been getting a lot of orders from Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Delhi, he says. While last year, they hosted events to create awareness about the 3D technology, the duo is now scanning celebrities like stand-up comic Papa CJ and popular blogger Miss Malini. They also make figurines and bust in chocolate or glow-in-the-dark material. “You can even have gold-plated or silver-plated high-end figurines made,” he says. Their studio delivers 3D selfies to your doorstep in seven days. Price: `3,500 to `8,000. The popular 12-cm sandstone 3D figurine costs Rs 7,000.
