Delhi’s news addition to casual dining is The Fatty Bao, a place specialising in casual Asian cuisine. The gastropub is doing great in Mumbai and hopes to do the same here. For the uninitiated, bao is a steamed bun with fillings, much like dim sum. The Fatty Bao at the Sangam Courtyard is co-owned by restaurateur AD Singh, chef Manu Chandra and Chetan Rampal.
The boat-shaped space of The Fatty Bao is inspired by the elements of a submarine—from round windows, a semi-enclosed dining space, an indoor and a outdoor bar. Sangam Courtyard where it’s located is turning out to be a premium destination in South Delhi.
At the launch bash, select few were invited to create a snob-value for the place. Whether they succeeded in it or not is yet to be established. We spotted Ayesha Thapar and Nikesh Arora, MD of Softbank who is more famous as one of the highest paid executives worldwide, JJ Valaya, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Suhel Seth, Niyamat Bakshi, Meenu Bakshi, Chetan Seth, Ashish Soni, AD and Sabina Singh among others.
