HYDERABAD:The web of powerful connections of slain gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over two decades is unraveling after his killing. A mysterious diary, whose contents reportedly have enough dirty details to topple many leaders is adding to the mystery. Nayeem’s role as a police came to light after retired IPS officer Shree Ram Tewari, who once headed the state’s Special Intelligence Bureau revealed metting him for information. The dead don’s clout in police and polticial circles was apparent after it was discovered that it was Nayeem who invited the infamous Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife to Hyderabad, leading to their abduction and killing. Telangana’s ruling TRS alleged the Telugu Desam Party, led by Chandrababu Naidu had nurtured the don, using him to settle political scores. TDP, backed by the Congress and the BJP, denies it.
Nayeem was a wanted criminal in over 100 cases including the murder of an IPS officer before he turned informer. TDP leader A Uma Madhava Reddy says there is a conspiracy behind the “selective” police leak. Police said Nayeem’s connections with a former minister is being probed.

BJP leader Nallu Indrasena Reddy alleged that Telangana police, with state backing eliminated Nayeem after he “threatened some top TRS leaders over land-related issues.” Political patronage kept Nayeem safe, until it proved to be his undoing in the end.
