NEW DELHI: Life after retirement is all for family and kids, but this 76-year-old retired principal’s only priority is to devote her time to improve education system in the schools.
Indu Bala, who retired from Delhi Tamil Education Association (DTEA) Secondary School in 2003, has been holding conferences, seminars and workshops for teachers under the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training), SCERT (Sate Council of Educational Research and Training), Academic advisory committee and open schools of CBSE, since then.
Talking to The Sunday Standard, Bala said, “I am working not for the students but for teachers because students are always eager to learn. Opting proper techniques to impart knowledge is the duty of teachers. So, I help them improve their teaching skills.”
Educational institutions and the state government schools call her once in a quarter to conduct advisory workshops for teachers to improve the teaching quality, scheme of studies and education system to deliver a good amount of content among students.
“Even though I have never worked with her, whenever I require her guidance in education related matters, she is always there on time to help us out,” says Meena Sahane, Principal, DTEA, Laxmi Bai Nagar.
Bala, who started her teaching journey in 1964, recalled, “Throughout my career I have seen many teachers who just do a job. But for me, teaching is not a job. It is something that takes children to the top to touch the sky. This is the reason why I always focus on the teachers more than the students.”
Bala is also a life time member of English Teachers Association and has been awarded for the services she rendered in teaching of English to students especially to those who come from the rural areas of Delhi.
