Identifying prevention as the key to combat human trafficking, the government is planning to form Joint Working Groups with neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar from where the maximum number of women and children are trafficked.
The focus will also be on rehabilitation and inclusion of women rescued from traffickers. These efforts will be made through the new Anti-Human Trafficking law, which is being formed following directions by the Supreme Court to formulate a special law to combat human trafficking.
It will take inputs from other laws which govern human trafficking, such as the CRPC and the Indian Penal Code. “The draft Bill has been formulated and will be sent to the Law Ministry in the next 15 days,” an official in the Women and Child Development Ministry told The Sunday Standard.
