It is indeed a big deal when an Indian designer is honoured by the French government for accomplishments of service to France, the Mecca of global fashion. Manish Arora was conferred the Chevalier de la légion d’Honneur by Francois Richier, the Ambassador of France to India, at a glittering function held at his residence on Tuesday.
Chevalier de la légion d’Honneur is the highest distinction in France, which is bestowed on citizens of France as well as foreigners. In the past, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Amitabh Bachchan and JRD Tata have been honoured with it.
Pinning the insignia on the celebrated designer, Richier said, “Manish has a long-standing connection with France. He is a pioneer in bringing the fashion culture of both countries together with his exuberant imagination.” Arora reciprocated by saying, “I’m honoured by the recognition I have received from the country that I love with all my heart. France has been an inspiration always. I now live between Paris and Delhi and for me France is literally my own country. I hope to keep getting inspired by France, the beauty and elegance of the French people.”
Spotted at the cocktail soiree were Arora’s Indian partners Deepak and Sapna, Ambika Pillai, Subodh Gupta, Rajeev Sethi, Kalyani Chawla, Rahul Mishra, Priya Paul, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Malini Ramani and many others.
