Scoring high on the fashion barometer

Here are the fashion forecasters highlighting the trends du jour for the remaining year.

NEW DELHI: Fashion forecasters are a busy lot. Responsible for identifying new trends, they come up with the future of fashion biannually. Here they are, once again, highlighting the trends du jour for the remaining year.

Retro Checks
Designers including Ashish Soni, Rina Dhaka, Siddharth Tytler and Pero, have leveraged the attractiveness of the trend in their collections. Checks and plaids are best worn as separates. You can pair a plaid jacket over a solid trouser or a skirt. Check shirts and blouses are definitely trending. Avoid chequered top-to-bottom look.

Layers
Layers compliment all body-types. One can throw on a poncho or a cloak over a spaghetti top, or layer a wrap-skirt over slim pants. Layering are also great for brightening a dull outfit or making one subtle with a throw of a lighter coloured cloak. You have designers such as Gaurav Jai Gupta, Sonam Dubal and Samant Chauhan going full swing with this trend.

Prints
Gardens are blooming with flowers in the Eden of fashion. Being added to this are naive, playful prints. You’ll find them everywhere—swimsuits, shoes, blouses and dresses. Find them at designers such as Anupama Dayal, Nida Mahmood and Shyamal and Bhumika.

Long Jackets
Long jackets made in wool and wool blends took the ramp at the recently concluded Amazon India Fashion Week fall/winter 2018 showcase. Pashmina and khadi are being used too. The novelty is that they’re not stiff like overcoats.

Gowns
There are ones that are body-hugging sequined gowns with thigh-high slits, while others find comfort in empire-line. One shoulder and those with trains, bows, and big flowers are in fad. Look out for designers Gauri and Nainika, and Malini Ramani.

Shapeless clothing
This is con-conformist clothing. It extends itself to formless dresses, voluminous pants,  and over-sized shirts.
