LUCKNOW: In a move to go united against growing ‘Islamophobia’, the Ulema and clerics part of the Jamiat-Ulama-I-Hind (JUH) from across the country converged at Deoband in UP’s Saharanpur on Saturday to take part in a two-day conference organised by the religious outfit.

While accusing the government by alleging that it talked of a ‘United India’ (Akhand Bharat), and has been patronising hate mongers due to which it had become difficult for the Muslim community to live freely, the clerics, on a positive note, announced to hold 1,000 Sadbhawana Sansads (goodwill conferences) to unite the society against hatred and Islamophobia.

The two-day congregation of the governing body of JUH commenced at Eidgah Maidan in Deoband and was attended by nearly 2000 members and representatives of organisations from all over the country. The meet was presided over by Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani, the JUH president.

The meet also passed three resolutions in this regard. “We have been maintaining patience but that does not mean that we will bow our heads and accept everything. We can compromise on everything, but not on our faith,” said Madani in his presidential address.

It also expressed concern over the alleged spread of communalism and saying that the government is turning a blind eye to the people spreading hatred against the minority community in various meetings.

It claimed that the country's unity is being hampered in the name of "false nationalism", which is dangerous not only for Muslims but the entire country.

Jamiat also passed a resolution urging the Centre to "forthwith stop activities of such elements, spreading communalism and messages which are not only against Muslims and Islam but all people believing in democracy, justice and equality".

The resolution claimed that "the country is burning in a fire of religious animosity and hatred".

An effort is on to incite people of the country against each other, it claimed.

It alleged that an effort to trigger this "black storm of communalism" is on under the protection of the present ruling party and the government with no stone being left unturned to poison the mind of the majority community of the country.

It said, "Obscene and baseless charges are being spread against Muslims, ancient Muslim rulers and Islamic culture and civilization."

"The relevant governments on the other hand are encouraging such people by either siding with them or leaving them to roam free instead of taking legal action against them," the Muslim body said in its resolution.

"Spreading communal hatred and inciting the religious feelings of the majority community against minorities with a motive to continue one's political hegemony are not only against the loyalty to and interest of the country but an open enmity with it," the resolution said.

"If fascist bodies in the country feel that the Muslim community will surrender before this oppression, they are sadly mistaken," it added.
