THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: To appreciate a movie or, for that matter, any artistic creation, one needs to have good understanding of it. Lack of proper understanding clouds our ability to judge it. Nothing can be more unjust for the artists involved in the film, than untrained minds judging their performance with sweeping general comments - good, bad or ugly.
Film appreciation prepares one to realise the potential of cinema and empower the artist and audience aiming towards a more enriching experience.
A study camp on film appreciation for children by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and State Council for Child Welfare can be seen as a step in the right direction. The camp is underway at Vyloppilly Samskruti Bhavan.
Academy Chairman Kamal termed the initiative as a start to nurture new appreciation habits among children. Language of films is universal. Movies have the potential to eliminate the discrimination based on religion, caste and race, said Kamal.
He said he hope the camp would help children understand good cinema and form a new gathering. Kamal along with cinematographer Sunny Joseph, producer Suresh Kumar interacted with the camp members. Academy vice chairperson Bina Paul, camp director VS Bindu spoke at the function. The camp ends on April 22.
