
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On the eve of author Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s 23rd death anniversary, the students of Neduveli Government Higher Secondary School commemorated the author in a different way. A group of 25 school students painted characters from Basheer’s works.
The exhibition organised by the school’s Sahitya Samajam and Vidyarangam along with its Malayalam department was inaugurated by Vembayam Panchayat President B S Chitralekha.
There were sketches of characters from Basheer’s novels Balyakalasakhi, Mathilukal, Ntuppuppakkoranendarnnu and Under the Mangosteen Tree. Vaikom Muhammad Basheer was a novelist and short story writer noted for his path-breaking and down-to-earth style of writing, endearing him to literary critics as well as layman.
Regarded as one of the most successful writers in Kerala, the Padma Shri winner’s works include Balyakalasakhi, Pathummayude Aadu, Mathilukal, Ntuppuppakkoranendarnnu and more. S M C chairman S Shiji, school principal M Sherina and headmistress K Jayashri attended the event.
