Congress consolidates its power in urban Telangana

Congress swept municipal polls across urban Telangana with a clear majority. The ruling party won in over 90 out of 116 municipalities and seven corporations. It was a mixed bag with BRS and BJP retaining their power in North Telangana. BRS lost control of nearly 90% of the urban bodies it dominated in the last decade. However, BRS emerged as the single largest party in around 10–12 municipalities. BJP overtook BRS in several divisions in the seven corporations, especially in the north.
