Man Posts Selfie With Dead Uncle, Image Goes Viral

A man posting a selfie with his deceased uncle on Facebook, at the funeral, has managed to antagonise social media users all over.

A Sri Lankan man is on the receiving end of wrath from social media users after he posted a selfie which he had clicked standing next to his deceased paternal uncle.

If posing next to a dead person was not enough, the man uploaded the picture on his Facebook page with a caption, "My peiriya appa (uncle) passed away."

Before he could realise, the post had attracted a lot attention and ended up going viral. The picture was soon shared across mutliple social media platforms, with people Tweeting about it as well as sharing the screenshot of the post.

Eventually, he was forced to take down the picture after receiving flak from all quarters. As Twitter user @TouMeinKiaKuro put it, “A selfie with his dead paternal uncle Humanity is on the verge of complete ethical and moral collapse.” (sic) The Tweets mentioning the selfie also had the hashtag #FuneralSelfie to make it more identifiable.

Many who saw the picture could not help but ask if the man was trying to imitate the comic scene from the movie Hangover III, in which one of the character takes a selfie next to his father's framed memorial photo at the funeral.

The picture also led to few lamenting over the man’s disrespect to a family member while others expressed how creepy was his idea of this selfie was.

Few Other Baffling Viral Selfies

This is not the first time such a selfiehas been posted online. There are many other similar selfies that have left people equally baffled and amused.

The person to top the list is the President of United States Barack Obama. Obama, who was in Johannesburg along with First Lady to attend Nelson Mandela's memorial service, decided to lean in and click a selfie along with Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt and British Prime Minister David Cameron. The picture became a high profile funeral selfie that received a lot negative attention from around the world.

Coming back to the latest selfie, there was a boy, who did the exact same thing as the Sri Lankan national but not with a family member. He clicked a selfie right next to his dead girlfriend. This incident that took place last year was deeply condemned on different social media platforms.

If these selfies were clicked at funerals, here is a person who clicked a selfie while running ahead of raging bulls.

This man, who was a participant at the San Fermin’s bulls festival in Spain, decided to click a daring selfie while being chased by a herd of bulls that were just inches away.

Selfie is all about getting the right frame, and this student from Florida made sure he had his subject in the frame. He thought it was more appropriate to pull his phone out and click a selfie, when his pregnant teacher suffered from contractions.

He also made sure to get the suffering teacher in the background while he smiled happily as he clicked the selfie to post it later on Twitter.
