Nearly 800 migrants, who tried to reach Europe, drowned off Tunisian coast in last six months

The North African country has become a major gateway for irregular migrants and asylum-seekers attempting the perilous sea voyage in the hope of a better life in Europe.

TUNIS: Almost 800 migrants drowned off Tunisia in the first half of the year as they tried to reach Europe by boat, National Guard spokesman Houcem Eddine Jebabli told AFP Thursday.
