KOCHI: World Malayalee Council (WMC) today said Captain Krishnan Nair, Chairman of the Leela Group and M G George, Chairman of the Muthoot Group, are among the 11 persons who have been selected for its inaugural Federal Bank Kerala Business Awards 2011.

While George Muthoot has been selected for the award in the Indian Businessman of the Decade cateogry, Captain Krishnan Nair has been selected for his contributions to hospitality industry, V C Praveen, WMC Global President, told reporters here.

The awards will be presented by Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, at a function here tomorrow.

In the inaugural year, the WMC intends to recognise and honour businessmen and business houses who have made Kerala proud in the last 25 years, he said.

Entreprenuerial spirit, financial performance, strategic direction, Innovation and personal integrity over the past 25 years were the criteria to choose the winners, George Kullangara, Chairman WMC India said.

The other award winners are: M P Ramachandran Chairman of the Jyothy Labs, Gokulam Gopalan, of the Gokulam group, Joy Alukkas, Joyalukkas group, Abdul Azeez, Skyline gorup, Kochouseph Chittilapilly of V Guard Industries, V P Nandakumar, Chairman Manappuram Finance, C K Menon, of the Behzad Group of Industries, E M Najeeb, Air Travel Enterprises.

Beena Kannan of Textile showroom 'Seemati' has been selected for women entreprenuer award.

In the Special category section, Veteran singer K J Yesudas has won the 'Pride of Kerala Award', T K A Nair, Principal Secretary to Prime minister, for Excellence in Bureaucratic service and Dr K M Cherian, Frontier Lifeline for excellence in Cardiac and Medical care.

The WMC also has plans to conduct motivational conclaves for students in college campsuses across Kerala.

To recognise exemplary talent in South Indian film industries, the council began presenting awards to artistes in Malayalam and Tamil film industries since 2009.

There are also plans to come out with the success stories of the winners in the form of books, he said.

Jagadeesan, Chief General Manager, Federal Bank, Joseph mathew, WMC,Ernakulam were among those who spoke.

WMC was started in 1995 to network the Malayalee diaspora spread around the world.
