Infosys Co-founder's Wife is Largest Promoter Shareholder

BENGALURU: Sudha Gopalakrishnan, wife of IT major Infosys co-founder S Gopalakrishnan (Kris) has emerged as the largest individual shareholder of the company.

This, after recent share sales by other co-founders including NR Narayana Murthy,  Dinesh and Nandan Nilekani and their respective families. Sudha Gopalakrishnan has a 2.14 per cent stake or 2,45,89,250 shares of the company her husband and six others co-founded in 1981.

In December 2014, Infosys co-founders offloaded 32.6 million shares valued at `6,484 crore ($1.1 billion).  The total shares amounted to 5.5 per cent of the company. Co-founders include Murthy and family sold 12 million shares, Nilekani and family sold 12 million shares, Dinesh and family sold 6.2 million shares and Kumari Shibulal sold 2.4 million shares. The funds will be used for their respective philanthropic activities, the co-founders had said.  

The promoters held 91,508,078 shares or 15.94 per cent stake in the company at the end of March 2014. But after the share sale, the promoters now account for 150215636 shares or  13.08 per cent of the company. Murthy’s son, Rohan is the second largest shareholder with 15899564 shares or 1.38 per cent, according to the company shareholding pattern.
