CHENNAI: South Korean automaker Hyundai on Thursday continued along its plans of modernising its product portfolio in India with the launch of the new i20 Elite priced between Rs 5.36 lakh and Rs 9.09 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The launch comes just months after an older, very popular model in the range, the i10, was pulled out of the market and its production stopped. The launch of the i20 Elite replaces the discontinued model with a more premium one in the premium hatchback back. There are also reports that the i10 will be replaced in its price band with a newer version of the Santro, one of India’s best performing mass volume cars in history.
Meanwhile, the newly launched i20 Elite comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variants are priced between Rs 5.36 lakh and Rs 9.09 lakh while the diesel trims are tagged between Rs 6.66 lakh and Rs 8.51 lakh. It also comes with newer features including six-airbags, making it the only car in its segment with front dual, side and curtain airbags.
“The Elite i20 has been a runaway global success, selling over 3 lakh units since its launch in 2014. The new 2017 Elite i20, with more first-in-segment features will further enhance the brand’s appeal,” Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO Y K Koo said in a statement.
The drive to modernise is seen in a few other new features that the model boasts -- 7.0 touchscreen audio video navigation with smartphone connectivity supporting AppleCarPlay, Android auto and mirror link features for technology savvy customers, smart entry, rear AC vents, diamond cut alloys, ABS, rear defogger and fog lamps.
