NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) plans to issue data tariff slabs that operators will have to pass on to the consumers.
Most operators don’t tell consumer that they are obliged to offer a tariff plan prescribed by the regulator. But, to push the data growth at lower cost, Trai is mulling to introduce one plan that the operator will have to compulsorily offer the consumers.
Trai has asked operators to offer customers a minimum of one mobile Internet data pack tariff scheme that will have a higher validity of one year and more data consumption capacity.
“We expect each operator to offer one Trai-prescribed tariff scheme that is aimed to expand telecom service and push the digital growth in the country,” sources in Trai said.The regulator will have a discussion with stakeholders soon on the issue. “We expect the consumer forums to come forward and speak at such open sessions, as it helps us to get a ground level feel of the consumer’s pulse,” said a senior Trai official.
