NEW DELHI: Oracle, the technology company that offers cloud applications, platform services, and engineered systems, sees a huge opportunity to hire and train people in India, to serve smart city and other digital initiatives of the government.
Amid the dark clouds of job losses in IT industry, Oracle sees growth in hiring of skilled man power in India and globally. “We are always looking for people who have cloud and integration skills and train them further on those skills,” Joel Cherkis, global vice-president (infrastructure, government, education and health - industry solutions group) at Oracle told Express.

Oracle Academy will work with Universities and colleges in India that are working on data science, predictability, automation, machine learning.
Oracle had hired 300 cloud professionals in India in 2015 and in 2016 it hired 1,000 professionals for Asia-Pacific out of which 200 were from India. According to independent IT analyst Jitender Gupta,  accross Asia-Pacific, midsize organisations continued to invest in Oracle’s complete cloud portfolio including India.

Cherkis says that India is best positioned to make smart city a big success across the world as it gets ready for a transition to goods and service tax system, Unified Payments Interface, BHIM and Aadhaar Pay. “India is positioned well to be a leader in the smart city space… with the exception of Dubai or Singapore, but not at the type of scale India is looking at.”

The government’s smart city initiative will make sure that citizens get to experience the benefits of technology and lead a convenient and safe life.
“Cloud will be a critical platform for integration of various initiatives that Indian government is planning or implementing around digital system,” Cherkis said.
