HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-based Maxivision Super Specialty Eye Hospitals plans to expand to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The eyecare major currently has 14 centres spread across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“We’ll launch our operations in Tamil Nadu over the next three months. Thereafter, we will focus on expanding in Kerala. These two states have growth potential,” Dr G S K Velu, chairman, Maxivision Super Specialty Eye Hospitals, told Express.

He noted that there is immense scope for quality eyecare service given the dearth of eye specialists as well as facilities. “We are focusing on bridging the gap between the need and supply in the eyecare sector,” he said.

The group is also working to increase the number of centres in Andhra and Telangana. “Our aim is to have our presence in every district. We will invest Rs 35-40 crore this financial year. The funds for the expansion will be acquired through internal accruals,” Velu said, adding that the group has plans for tier-2 cities in spite of several challenges.

“The government healthcare sector has several shortcomings in delivering quality eyecare services. Therefore, private players have to chip in to bridge the gap,” Velu said.
