GOA: French automaker Renault unveiled its premium sports utility vehicle with crossover DNA, the Captur, here on Friday. Bookings will open from September 22 on the Renault Captur app and Renault India website at an initial booking amount of Rs 25,000.

The car is built on the same BO platform on which the Duster is based, but it will be positioned above the latter. This indicates it will make the Captur less expensive to produce, thanks to the lower cost of the platform. It will also be slightly different from the versions sold in other markets, including Brazil, France and Russia.

It will be launched with a 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.

Captur will compete with Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and the top-spec Duster, among others.
Sumit Sawhney, country CEO & MD, Renault India, said that the company’s growth strategy hinges on launching products that create an innovative vehicle class and cater to the volume and growing segments of the Indian automotive industry, representing evolving customer preferences.

On localisation, Sawhney said it has managed to localise most of its products and expects to produce the vehicle with 80 per cent localisation. He also noted that Kwid has 98 per cent localisation, which is one of the highest in the industry.

Sawhney said the company will be launching at least one product every year and going forward, it may also look at sub 4-metre vehicles. The automaker expects to achieve five per cent market share by 2019 and aims to reach to 320 dealerships by the end of 2017.
