MUMBAI: For the first time, the benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) breached 37K level to 37,336.85, a life-time-high spurting by 840.48 points at the end of the week on Friday, as Modi government won the no-confidence motion even reduction in goods and services tax (GST) rate on 88 goods and services too boosted the same.
The Nifty 50 index rose 268.15 points or 2.44 per cent to settle at 11,278.35.
Stocks also got a boost by the government's Better-than-expected June 2018 quarterly results from index pivotal also fortified sentiment on the domestic bourses.
Positive global stocks also triggered buying. Trading was volatile during the week as traders rolled over positions in the F&O segment from the near-month July 2018 series to August 2018 series.
The July 2018 F&O contracts expired on Thursday. The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 716.16 points or 4.71 pc to settle at 15,912.62.
The BSE Small-Cap index rose 728.77 points or 4.64 pc to settle at 16,450.20.
Both these indices outperformed the Sensex. Trading for the week began on an upbeat note on Monday as the BSE Sensex, gained 222.23 points at 36,718.60.
The Nifty 50 index gained 74.55 points or 0.68 pc at 11,084.75.
The market gained for the third straight session on Tuesday, 24 July 2018, as cement and auto stocks surged on hopes of improved results.
The BSE Sensex, rose 106.50 points at 36,825.10. The Nifty 50 index rose 49.55 points at 11,134.30.
On Wednesday, the Sensex rose marginally by 33.13 points at 36,858.23 while the Nifty 50 index fell by 2.30 points at 11,132.
Key benchmark indices logged modest gains in the volatile session of trade on Thursday as the Sensex rallied by 126.41 points at 36,984.64.
The Nifty 50 index rose 35.30 points or 0.32% to settle at 11,167.30. On the last trading of the week, the Sensex touched 37K level to 37,336.85, advancing by 352.21 points.
