It is not uncommon to find motorists violating rules blatantly by either driving on the footpath or breaking the one-way rule.
Thippasandra Road that connects 80-Feet Road in Indiranagar with Suranjandas Road (near BEML Gate) is a classic example for traffic violations after it was made a one-way, years ago.
The Thippasandra market in the vicinity has made matters worse by slowing the traffic flow. City Express recently brought this matter up with the additional commissioner of police for traffic, MA Saleem, who assured us that immediate action will be taken in this regard.
Following the complaint, we found the police conducting checks and fining violators more frequently on this particular stretch.
Reacting on the massive checks by the police on Thippasandra Road, Mohan Das, a businessman, said, “The turning near Ganesha temple is dangerous as most motorists prefer to violate the one-way and take a turn to save time.
Last Sunday we saw massive police presence on the road, fining those breaking the one-way rule.
If the traffic police constantly keep an eye on this road, especially during the peak hours, it will be a huge relief to those following the rules.”
This is part of the special drive initiated by the Bangalore Traffic Police wherein they choose an area or locality on a particular day and conduct checks and book cases accordingly.
“A part of the special drive we covered Thippasandra and intensified the checks on that stretch following your complaint recently. After being informed of the violations taking place I issued instructions to the Circle Traffic Inspector.
We are not just penalising the offenders, we are taking strict action. If we find motorists driving on the footpath, we not only fine them Rs 300 but also suspend their driving license. So there is more fear among them,” said Saleem.
When we contacted Circle Traffic Inspector Kavitha to find out about the number of violations booked on a daily basis, she could not be reached for comments.
