The most endearing fact about actor Atul Kulkarni is that he never brags about his achievements.
Getting a star status in the Marathi film industry, Atul is known for his acting skills in various languages.
The multilingual actor has two Kannada films, Edegarike and Drama releasing on the same day.
“As an actor, it is definitely a day to look forward to the reactions from audience who will get to see two completely different characters of mine, simultaneously,” said Atul.
On Drama by Yograj Bhat, Atul says, every director has his or her own style of making a movie and Yograj’s style is quite unique.
“As actors we look for the difference because if we are working with a different kind of a director, the end product delivery will also vary altogether,” he said.
As for Edegarike, Atul will portray the role of a donturned- journalist.
The actor, who is upbeat about the subject, was equally elated to work with lady director, Sumana Kittur.
He said, “I think a subject like underworld is the bastion of men and being directed by a woman like Sumana has d e f i n i t e l y brought in a different s i g n i f i - cance.
She h a s brought several dimensions to this film.
With the novel itself being a modern classic, Sumana had studied the subject so well that it was evident in her approach.
On the whole, the emotional part brought out by a female director in Edegarike is excellent,” he explained.
Atul had the advantage of being born in Belgaum and was raised in Maharashtra where he learnt Hindi.
Today, he is one actor who gives equal importance to all regional languages.
“Apart from English, as Indians, we are quite multilingual where we can understand at least three to four languages.
Cinema is such a medium, where you not only learn different languages but come across different cultures.
Today as a person, I can act in seven different languages.
I also completed shoot for a Hollywood film titled Singularity recently, where I experienced a different kind of film making.
I am lucky because I got into multilingual industry with my very first film, Hey Ram which was done in Tamil and Telugu,” he said.
The actor has a line of projects in Marathi and Hindi.
“I am looking forward to shoot for a Marathi film from February, next year.
Currently I am working on 26/11 directed by Ram Gopal Varma and I have taken up another project of veteran director, KC Bokadia,” Atul revealed.
But his current pet project is the remake of Zanjeer, which also stars Ram Charan Teja and Priyanka Chopra.
“The specialty of this movie is that director Apoorva Lakhia has conceived a new role for me, which was not there in the original.
Being considered to play a character in one of the biggest blockbuster film of yesteryears of Hindi cinema is like a dream come true.
But what’s more thrilling is that you are not playing an old character but a new part, which will definitely bring in curiosity among the audience.
” He added, “I have watched Zanjeer back in my school days when I was residing in Solapur.
To be part of the same film is definitely an amazing feeling.
”
