Man who helps Dalai Lama while speaking

What completes the Dalai Lama’s speeches? More than the spiritual leader’s knowledge and divinity, his speeches are never complete without Chepak, his personal translator and prompter for  India.

Throughout the Dalai Lama’s lecture at Christ University on Monday which lasted for more than one hour, Chepak was seen standing right next to him, helping the Dalai Lama find the right words every time he was lost for words.

Clad in a gray tuxedo and armed with a microphone and notepad, Chepak knows the itinerary of the Dalai Lama’s speeches and is always ready to jump in when he is needed to provide his inputs that allows the spiritual leader to communicate effectively.

“Chepak has been with the Dalai Lama for a long time, maybe around seven years now. It is his experience and skill that he knows what His Holiness is trying to say and Chepak accordingly pitches in with the right words,” said a member of the Tibetan Government-in-exile, who accompanied the Dalai Lama said.

When Express tried to talk to the low-profile Chepak after the lecture, he said, “I am sorry. I am really busy and I have to go.”
