City boys go international with their latest album

Who can forget the underwater music video of Arabian Sea from the album Fiery Drums? The video which was composed and shot by the city-based boys Ricky Kej, music director and Bhushan Bagadia, film maker was launched recently in one of the international music channels.

In conversation with City Express, Ricky Kej and Bhushan Bagadia spoke at length about their video, collaboration and future projects.

Speaking about his composition, Arabian sea, Ricky Kej said, “The song is a Celtic fusion, mostly like European fusion music. As soon as Bhushan Bagadia listened to the music, he wanted to shoot the video underwater. This was a good idea as filming any other shots from any one land seemed inappropriate to the score.”

Bagadia is not just a film maker but also a a rescue diver. He took over 45 dives to get some ideal shots. Bagadia is now all excited with the response he received from the audience worldwide. Speaking about the same, he said, “In Thailand, I was working for a company that makes films underwater. I met Ricky before that and listened to his new composition, Arabian Sea. I always wanted to film marine life. When I heard Ricky’s music, the idea of an underwater shoot struck me,” he said.

Bagadia added, “It was a good experience featuring aquatic species.”

Sharing some of his memorable moments while diving, he said, “I decided to document what I saw in the underwater world during my second dive. In fact, I saw a Basking Shark and it left a lasting impression. This was in Cornwall, UK. It was much after the dive I learnt that Basking Sharks are safe. Also in another incident, I was shooting a sea snake. I was very close to it and was told that it is highly poisonous ‘only’ after my fellow divers saw the footage. I was thrilled.”

Both Ricky and Bhushan are coming up with a project of Sufi music, entitled ‘Muoth Mujko’. The video was also made accessible to a larger audience though social networking sites. This served as a larger platform to inform people about the video, said Ricky. When asked about Ricky’s and Bhushan’s interest in working for films and other commercials, Ricky said, “I will usually take up one project a year and give my best to the project. Recently, I took up a project in Telugu film industry, as I liked the story of the film. I have closely associated myself to this film.”

While answering the same Bhushan said that he has not worked on any commercials until recently. But the artistes opine that the market for such music is comparatively low in India unlike the market in Europe, USA, UK, Australia and China.
