Upa Lokayukta Flooded with Complaints on Illegal Land Grants

Over 100 complaints from Hoskote and Nelamangala taluk were heard at a public hearing by Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi at the Bangalore Rural Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.

Over 100 complaints from Hoskote and Nelamangala taluk were heard at a public hearing by Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi at the Bangalore Rural Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.

Majority of complaints pertained to land issues involving officials from City Municipal Corporation (CMC), tahsildars and police. For Shivashankar, it was a victory to retain a park space in Vasundhara Layout in Nelamangala, in a fight that lasted over two years. The Nelamangala CMC Chief Officer and other officials had granted a plum 100X125 plot reserved for a park in the residential Layout to the Bovi Samaja.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the Upa Lokayukta directed the secretary to the Urban Development Department to be present in the Lokayukta’s office on January 4. “There is no provision to convert the park space for any other purpose. The officials should explain how the space was granted to an association,” Justice Adi directed.

Shivashankar said in Nelamangala taluk alone, 23 park spaces have been illegally granted to associations and individuals.
