Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao on Tuesday directed the Housing Department to furnish details about sites and houses allotted under Ashraya and other housing schemes.
At a meeting with the Principal Secretary to the Housing Department E V Ramana Reddy and Managing Director, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Ltd, IAS K G Jagadeesha, the Lokayukta sought details on the status of issuance of hakku patras (title deeds) to poor people under various housing schemes.
“There were complaints from across the state about inordinate delays in issuing hakku patras and also about demand for bribe from officials. The poor beneficiaries of the schemes could not bear the harassment by the officials. Hence, a meeting was called to discuss the issue,” Syed Riyaz, Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations), Lokayukta said.
The Lokayukta directed the officials to furnish details, as to how many houses and open sites have been allotted to people so far and how many title deeds have been given, by January 17.
