Proposal to Construct Boys' Hostel

A proposal has been drafted to construct a boys’ hostel at Pudupet in Lawspet under the Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatravas Yojana as a centrally sponsored Scheme (CSS) at an estimated cost of Rs 7.30 crore, according to managing director of the Puducherry Adi Dravidar Development Corporation (PADCO) T Elangovan here on Monday.

He told Express that construction work of a government girls hostel at Krishna Nagar at a cost of Rs 5.30 crore is under progress. Work is being carried out to renovate all hostel buildings within the next financial year.

He said the construction of the third floor of the Directorate of Adi Dravidar Welfare building is being done at a cost of `1.01 crore. The foundation stone for the work was laid by Welfare Minister P Rajavelu a couple of days ago.

PADCO, which is the project executing agency for construction of houses for SC beneficiaries under HUDCO and JNNURM schemes, has completed 262 dwelling units at Ariyur and Pitchveeranpet and the units will be handed over to the beneficiaries shortly.

A total of 1,233 dwelling units for non-city development plan areas (1,063 at 15 locations in Puducherry and 170 units at two locations in Karaikal) have been completed and these units will be handed over to the beneficiaries soon.
