A 12-year-old girl was raped by a backhoe loader driver, who is her neighbour, in a sericulture farm in Nalavatti near Whitefield on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Vijaykumar, a native of Raichur. He had joined work a month back, and was staying near the girl’s house.
The police said at around 6.30 pm, the girl, who studies in the sixth standard in a government school, had gone to her neighbours house for help with homework.
While the victim was returning home, Vijaykumar dragged her to a secluded spot and raped her, before escaping from the scene.
The girl’s parents got worried when she failed to return till late in the night.

They went in search of her and found her in an unconscious condition. The victim was rushed to a private hospital where she is said to be recovering. In her statement to the police, the girl alleged that Vijaykumar dragged her to an isolated place while she was on her way home and raped her.
