BAMUL to give Rs 2 Incentive to Farmers

The State government has authorised Bangalore Milk Union Limited (BAMUL) to give an incentive of `2 per litre of milk to farmers who supply milk to 1,919 societies that are run by it. However, this will not have any effect on the milk products supplied by BAMUL across the State.

BAMUL managing director T Gurulingaiah told Express that the decision has been taken to encourage lakhs of farmers. Farmers are getting `22 from BAMUL now and this incentive increase will help them in milk production, he noted.

Earlier, many farmers had lost their livestock due to foot-and-mouth disease and BAMUL had also compensated them. The decision to give them `2 will help them a lot, he remarked.

Gurulingaiah observed that farmers in Bangalore Rural and Ramanagaram districts stood to gain from the announcement.
