Two days after one of its employees was brutally attacked at its own ATM kiosk on J C Road, the zonal security officer of Corporation Bank briefed police officials about security measures on Thursday.
Zonal security officer Santosh Louise said his department was awaiting instructions from the bank’s head office to increase security at all its ATMs.
“The bank has more than 100 ATMs in Bangalore and surrounding areas and security has been provided at some sensitive places. The government is now pressing for security at all ATMs after the incident. The bank will take note of the guidelines from the State and work out a budget and a decision will come from the head office,” Louise said.
He had earlier reviewed the security situation and visited the branch where the victim, Jyothi Uday, worked.
Meanwhile, other bank officials said Jyothi had only a small amount of cash in her bank account. “Officials have a high workload and as a manager, she had many cheques to clear on Tuesday. Our officials tried to reach her from 7.30 am to know if she was coming to work, but her phone was not reachable. It was only around 11 am that we were told by police about the attack,” said Vittal Rao, senior manager, clearance section, Corporation Bank branch office.
He said Jyoti had joined the Mission Road branch two years ago.
On the day of the incident, the bank struggled to reach her husband Uday Kumar as no details were available.
By the time officials got in touch with him, he had already been informed about the incident.
Jyothi is recovering: Doctors
Jyothi Uday, the Corporation Bank manager, who was attacked by a miscreatn while withdrawing money from an ATM on Tuesday, is responding to medication, doctors treating her at BGS Hospital said. Dr Venkataramana, vice-chairman, BGS Global Hospitals, said, “She is recovering and doing well. Though she is stable, it will take a long time to recover from the paralysis.” Venkataramana added she would be kept in ICU for the next three to four days and then shifted to the ward. Doctors said Jyothi would attend physiotherapy sessions later on. The hospital has taken Jyothi’s blood samples for tests, though doctors said her vital parameters were stable.
