The city police on Sunday closed 1,037 ATM kiosks after the banks failed to obey the Police Department’s order on placing security guards round the clock and monitoring them with CCTV and make arrangements for compulsory security alerts at all kiosks.
The city police had directed all banks to provide a list of security guards, CCTVs and compulsory security alert outside the ATM kiosks following the assault on a Corporation Bank manager recently. The banks had been clearly told to adhere to follow conditions by 4 pm on Sunday.
The police were seen closing down the ATM kiosks’ shutters across the city as most of the banks failed to do so within this time. The initital numbers of ATM kiosks closed by the police at zone-level are as follows: West-142, Central-80, South-234, North-160, East- 191, South East-165 and North East-65.
Improvement in Jyothi’s condition
Meanwhile, Jyothi Uday (44), manager of Corporation Bank’s Mission Road branch who was brutally attacked by an unknown person on November 19 at the bank’s ATM kiosk near Corporation Circle, is recovering after surgery. Dr N K Venkataramana, chief neurosurgeon at BGS Global Hospitals, Kengeri, said, “Her paralysis is still the same. But sensation has improved a lot. She has been put on physiotherapy sessions.”
