Truth and justice are synonymous and people should use all their experiences, knowledge and intellect to get to the truth, said Karnataka Judicial Academy president Justice N Kumar.
He was speaking at a function organised here on Tuesday to release a book titled Relevancy, Proof and Evaluation of Evidence in Criminal Cases written by Justice U L Bhat, former chief justice of Guwahati and Madhya Pradesh High Courts.
Kumar said: “We need tools to achieve justice and the Evidence Act is one such effective tool. Though over 100 years have gone by since it was enacted, not many amendments have been made to it.”
The judge lauded the Act as an exemplary piece of legislation and said guidelines are necessary to understand it. He added that the book written by Justice Bhat will help law students, advocates and judges understand the Act better.
