If you go by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s words, the condition of the city’s roads will be changed in a few months.
The CM, who launched road development works in the city on Saturday, said 230 major roads in the city will be developed at a cost of Rs 560 crore.
“I have directed the BBMP not to call tenders for asphalting the roads as the process will take time. I have suggested it to assign the work to Karnataka Road Development Corporation and within a few months, the condition of Bangalore roads will change,” he said.
“Laying of concrete roads will be taken up wherever possible on priority. Such roads will last longer,” he said. “During my city rounds, I noticed bad roads. We need to develop major roads first. Later work on interior roads have to be taken up”.
He said Bangalore has many tags like IT capital, knowledge hub and silicon valley. “But with bad roads make a mockery of the reputation,” he said, adding there has been no vision in developing roads.
Revenue generated from Akrama-Sakrama should be utilised for Bangalore development, he said adding, “we will open a separate bank account for Akrama-Sakrama”.
He also said there are some suggestions to make changes to the Akrama Sakrma Bill to include residential sites and they will be included.
District In-charge Minister R Ramalinga Reddy said that asphalting work will start after Dasara. “By January end, all major roads in Bangalore will be asphalted. Along with roads, footpaths will also be developed and silt will be removed from shoulder drains,” he said.
Siddaramiah laid the foundation for a grade separator at West of Chord Road and 10th Cross in Rajajinagar and an underpass at Siddaiah Puranik Road junction. He also initiated development of major roads project.
