The Karnataka Shramika Shakti, a confederation of industrial workers and pourakarmikas, held a protest rally demanding service weightage for contract labourers, here on Saturday. Trade union leader S Balan said contract labourers from Mysore and Bangalore, who had been deprived of benefits under the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act of 1971, have come forward asking for the implementation of the rule.
He said according to a government notification to all private and public companies, contract labourers are entitled to service weightage at 2 per cent over and above their basic wages, though it has not been implemented yet.
