HC fixes deadline to clear encroachments

Lambasting the State government over the delay in recovering encroached land, the High Court on Friday directed the government to prepare a “firm and proper” action report in this regard by November 18. About 11 lakh acres of government and forest lands across the state have been encroached.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice S N Satyanarayana heard a PIL filed by the president of the Samaj Parivartan Samudaya (SPS) S R Hiremath and others, seeking directions to breathe life into the Task Force for Recovery of Public Land and its Protection.

‘Take Call on KAAA Administrator’

The HC directed the government to take a final call on appointing an administrator to the Karnataka Amateur Athletics Association by November 8. Justice A N Venugopala Gowda passed the order on a petition filed by Hareesh Shetty K, seeking an end to irregularities linked to the KAAA’s office-bearers.
