“The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has almost completed the investigation in the Soujanya rape and murder case and it will submit a detailed report to the Home Department in a week,” said Home Minister K J George.

Addressing reporters after inaugurating the new building of the HSR Layout police station he said, “Once we get the report, the government will take appropriate action.”

He said, “The High Court has already allowed to set up 10 new fast track courts for speedy disposal of cases pertaining to crimes against women. The government has also given momentum to the process of setting up the new courts.”

The government, he said, is looking into DGP of CID Bipin Gopalakrishna committee report on security at prisons. The committee was formed after serial rapist  Jaishankar escaped from Bangalore central jail. He was nabbed after a few days.

CBI Probe Sought

State president of Loksatta Party, Ashwin Mahesh, on Tuesday demanded CBI inquiry into the murder of a 17-year-old girl in Ujire.

“Even after one year, after two rounds of enquiry, the police have not been able to trace the culprits. The State government should hand over the case to CBI,” he during a press conference.

He said according to data given out by Belthangady police station, there have been 472 unnatural deaths, rapes, murders and other such incidents in and around Ujire, Nethravathi river and Dharmasthala from 2001 to 2011.

He demanded an explanation from the state government on the issue.
