In one of his first major decisions, Mayor B S Satyanarayana has taken up a proposal to connect Bangalore South with the Majestic area directly by cutting across a few private properties to link Bull Temple Road and Goods Shed Road.

This is a plan Satyanarayana has been championing for several years as a corporator. It will not only benefit his Basavanagudi ward, but help reduce travel time and fuel for commuters between the two regions.

Bull Temple Road is a major connecting road between Bangalore South to North and West parts of the city. At present, road users from Ramakrishna Ashrama to City Railway Station have to travel on Bull Temple Road, take left towards Chamarajpet Police Station, Mysore Road and Goods Shed Road.

Satyanarayana told reporters on Friday: “Some of the private property owners have agreed to give their properties under Transferable Development Right (TDR) for this project. By connecting these roads,  the traffic burden as well as traveling time will reduce”.

Sathyanarayana said plans are being made to widen three more roads which have bottlenecks, including Goods Shed Road. “We are considering procuring space on the left side that connects to City Railway Station. If the corner space is procured under TDR, it will be easier for vehicles to take a free left, without waiting for the signal. It will ease traffic flow,” he pointed out.

This plan, however, is in an initial stage and engineers have just prepared a design.  In addition, the Mayor said the BBMP is planning a drive against footpath encroachment.
