Power cuts to haunt you till month-end

Upgradation of infrastructure undertaken by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) will result in many scheduled power cuts over the next 10-12 days.

Upgradation of infrastructure undertaken by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) will result in many scheduled power cuts over the next 10-12 days. The cuts, which are scheduled for maintenance work, began on Monday and are expected to continue till the end of September.

On Monday and Tuesday, power supply was affected in Mahalakshmi Layout, Banashankari, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, NGEF, Hessaraghatta, Vrushabhavati, Kadugodi, HAL and also in the central business district.

Most of the work is the charging of aerial bunched (AB) cables which have been laid and the laying of new ones, work on which began in June. The AB cables are expected to decrease the chances of electrocution. BESCOM is also implementing the Distribution Automation System (DAS) in the city on a war-footing and also cites this as one of the reasons for the power cuts.

Officials said that a lot of applications had been filed for obtaining a line clear (LC) in order to carry out work. The DAS work is expected to be completed by September. It will allow for isolation of problems and better response times in restoration of power.

On Wednesday, power cuts are scheduled for Shivahalli, BEML Layout, RR Nagar, Chandra Layout, Kadugodi, Adugodi, Hoody and other places. A schedule of power cut timings is available on the BESCOM website at www.bescom.org/lc
