Female Students Urged to Crush Hurdles and Achieve Success

The women students’ forum of Guru Nanak College, Velachery, celebrated International Women’s Day and the valedictory function of the forum on Tuesday.

T K Avvaikothai, staff advisor, women students’ forum, delivered the welcome address, introduced the chief guest and presented the annual report.

M Selvaraj, Principal, in his presidential address, spoke about the role of women in uplifting society. He encouraged the female students to achieve success not only in academics, but also in other activities of the college.

Chief guest Meenakshi Vijayakumar, the first Indian Woman Fire Officer and Presidents’ Gallantry Medal Winner, said that Women’s Day need not be celebrated once in a year but that every day is special and important for women.

She said that every woman should feel proud of “being a woman”.

Meenakshi told the students that socio-economic hindrances should in no way hamper a woman’s life and insisted that every female student should have the fire in her and aspire to achieve the best in her life.

Prizes and certificates were distributed to the participants of various competitions held by the forum during the academic year 2013 -2014.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the general secretary for women M Sowmya.
