Entries are invited for Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2013-14

BANGALORE: Population First, a Mumbai-based NGO working on health, gender and population issues, invites media and advertising professionals to send in their entries for the sixth edition of the Southern Region Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity (LMAAGS) 2013-14. The awards have been instituted in association with the United Nations Population Fund to acknowledge, highlight and celebrate the commendable efforts undertaken by print and electronic media (TV, radio and web) and advertising to support gender-just perspectives.

Print media articles including news features, investigative reports, human interest stories, editorials, op-eds, columns and campaigns can be entered. Documentaries, radio plays and topical or issue based programmes from electronic media, and E-magazines, blogs, features, web-groups and social media campaigns from the web are welcome.

The awards will also honour advertising initiatives and jingles for products, services and public service announcements in languages including English, Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu.

Entries should emphasise the value of the girl child and woman in the Indian society; highlight the influence of gender perceptions on the functioning of police, judiciary, administrators and other service providers in the implementation of laws and programmes; challenge gender stereotypes by focusing on men and women who are redefining their gender equations; analyse policies, programmes and laws and social, economic and political developments that from a gender perspective; focus on factors contributing to gender inequality and violence; report on current events from a gender perspective; create awareness on pre-birth sex selection, gender discrimination, influence of gender perceptions on the functioning of service providers; Interpret research and other reports/documents from a gender perspective or voice the experiences of survivors of gender violence.

All entries should have been published, displayed, broadcast or telecast between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. Multiple entries are welcome.
