40 Oral Plaints Against Gurumurthy

BANGALORE: The police have received at least 40 oral complaints of cheating against embryologist K T Gurumurthy, the owner of Shrushti Global Medical Care and Charitable Trust.

A case was registered against Gurumurthy by Don Bosco at Nandini Layout police station on Saturday. He alleged that in 2008 Gurumurthy had taken `3.5 lakh from him and had promised him a baby through surrogacy. However, seven months later he had handed over a baby boy which Don Bosco confirmed through a paternity test, was not his.

While the police have taken Gurumurthy to police custody and are trying to trace the mother of the now 6-year-old boy, they are also looking into a bigger racket that may involve kidnapping and trafficking.

Soon after the case was registered, the police had asked the public to come forward with complaints if they too were cheated by Gurumurthy.

On Monday, Hemant Nimbalkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) visited Nandini Layout police station and collected details of the case.

Ever since the news was published, Nimbalkar has received about 35-40 calls from people who said they have complaints against Gurumurthy.

“The calls came in from all over the state. The callers have been asked to register complaints with the Nandini layout police station, Kamakshipalya police station or with me, at the Commissioner’s office,” Nimbalkar said.

All DCPs across the seven divisions have also been directed to take up these cases on priority, Nimbalkar added.
