BANGALORE: Mayor N Shanthakumari directed BBMP officials to take up widening of the Bannerghatta Road as soon as possible to ease traffic congestion.

The mayor and a team of officials inspected various parts of Bangalore South on Tuesday morning.

Shanthakumari directed BBMP officials of the major roads departments to take up road widening from Gottigere to Meenakshi temple on Bannerghatta road, stated the release. She also directed them to schedule a day to start the work.

When the Mayor and team went to Bannerghatta Road, vehicle users complained to the Mayor about traffic congestion. Bangalore South MLA Krishnappa said many people on Bannerghatta Road were ready to give up their properties for road widening, but officials are not ready to give Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).

He urged the Mayor to give TDR compensation. The mayor instructed the officials to take action in this regard, stated the release.

Prior to this, the mayor visited Uttarahalli Circle where she interacted with pourakarmikas. She enquired as to whether they get salaries on time, provident funds, how many auto tippers are deployed and other details. Later, the mayor visited Uttarahalli Lake and expressed her displeasure over the lake’s development. Deputy Mayor K Ranganna, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana were present.

Employees Taken to Task

Mayor N Shanthakumari on Tuesday evening inspected the ward offices on Queen’s Road and took the employees to task over cleanliness and attendance issues.

She visited the office at 5 pm and questioned the officials why so many of them were away from their seats. She visited the Assistant Tax Officer’s office catering to Vasanth Nagar, Kadugondahalli and Pulkeshi Nagar areas.

Interacting with the members of the public, who complained about the lackadaisical attitude of the officers and the unhygienic and broken toilets, she ordered that the premises be kept clean. She also said that officials who were not present will be given notices.

Deputy Mayor K Ranganna and other BBMP officials were also present on the occasion.
