Social Media Romance Sours: Foreigner Arrested for Rape

BANGALORE: A Dutch national was arrested  by the airport police on Wednesday for allegedly cheating and raping a woman from Gurgaon.

Peter Bruijn (43), a resident of Sadarahalli and managing director of Nuficc Neso India, was arrested after the 33-year-old woman filed a complaint late on Tuesday.The woman said Bruijn had befriended her on Facebook, gained her confidence, and then raped her after promising marriage. Police sent Bruijn and the complainant to Ambedkar Medical Hospital for examination.

“One the report comes, we will take further action,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikas Gowda.

The police have booked Bruijn for rape, criminal intimidation and cheating. In her complaint, the woman has alleged Bruijn forced her to have a physical relationship after promising to marry her. Later, he allegedly denied having made such a promise.

Bruijn’s company, which represents Dutch universities in India, works from Kasturinagar, Benniganahalli.

Forced Abortion

The woman, who has known Bruijn since 2011, says she agreed to intimacy with him only because of his promise to marry her.”But when I became pregnant, he started avoiding me. He forced me to undergo abortion,” she told the police. She learnt that Bruijn was already married with a child, and was left with no choice but to complain.
