City Gets Rs 83cr Under 'Safe City' Project

BENGALURU: The Central government has released `83 crore for Bengaluru under the ‘Safe City’ project.

Police Commissioner M N Reddi, in a statement on Tuesday, said the police department would put up 3,000 CCTV cameras in a 5-km radius in all core areas of the city. In the first phase, 1,000 cameras will be installed.

According to Reddi, the Centre has also given 300 commandos from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to patrol the city. They will be provided with wireless systems that will alert them to any trouble in the area they are patrolling. Eighty four-wheelers and 150 two-wheelers will be provided for the purpose. 

A separate control room is also being set up to monitor tweets by the over 5 lakh followers of the city police on Twitter. The state will provide some funds for the project but the Commissioner didn’t give details.
