BENGALURU: Lokayukta sleuths of Belagavi have arrested Deputy Director Chandrashekhar Ramappa Toravi of the Pre-University Department and second division assistant Mahanthesh Rachappa Malamaradi, Belagavi, for allegedly demanding a bribe from a retired principal to sanction pension benefits.
According to a press release on Wednesday, Appasaheb, retired principal of Bedakihal-Shamaneswadi Composite Pre-University College, Bedakihal, Chikkodi taluk, filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police against the duo.
He alleged that they had demanded a bribe of Rs 28,000 to sanction his benefits. Finally, they negotiated for Rs 25,000.
Unwilling to pay, Appasaheb filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police in Belagavi.
Accordingly, police laid a trap on February 10 and Mahantesh was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant as per the instructions of Chandrashekhar Ramappa Toravi.
