Answer Script Goes Missing, Student Waits For Results

BENGALURU: A student who has completed his graduation from a college affiliated to Bangalore University is running from pillar to post to get his fifth semester B Com results.

Vinay (name changed), who was a student of B N M Degree College, Banashankari, appeared for his fifth semester exams last November. When he approached the college for his fifth semester results, the authorities said BU had not sent them the results. “I came to the university and met the officials concerned, including the registrar (evaluation). They cross-checked my registration number in the system, and said there was no information of me attempting the exams,” Vinay said.

When Express contacted the university officials, they said they did not receive Vinay’s answer script. According to them, the script went missing after being likely seized when the examination malpractice scam was busted in November last year, and eight students of B N M Degree College were caught writing exams at a house in Gandhi Bazaar after exam hours.

When the university officials, along with Basavanagudi police, busted the scam, they seized answer scripts of all the students who had appeared for the particular test. According to officials, more than 200 answer scripts were seized.

Prof K N Ningegowda, registrar (evaluation), BU, said, “The answer script of this particular boy has not reached the university, we have not received it from the police. We have documents for all the scripts we have received and we have no idea how that answer script went missing.”

He said even the police are saying they have no idea about the answer sheet. “I think it got misplaced when they opened the bundle for the purpose of copying the answer scripts,” Ningegowda said.

As per university rules, Vinay cannot be awarded average marks taking into consideration his scores in other subjects. “We have no option of declaring his results unless we have the answer script,” the registrar said. “I will discuss the matter with the vice-chancellor and place it before the Syndicate also. Let the Syndicate take a decision.”
